Erin Hews was selected as the 2008 outstanding MSA student to be honored at the Graduate Hooding Ceremony, graduating in May with a Masters of Science in Accounting. She has been doing an internship at Berry, Dunn, McNeil and Parker since January 2007 and has accepted a full time position in their auditing department with them after graduation. Erin is planning to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam this summer which will have her one step closer to becoming licensed.
Her advice to the incoming and current MSA students: Do an internship during
the program. Currently an internship is not required to graduate from the program;
however, she emphasizes that is a great learning experience. She says: “It
gives you a place to apply the topics learned in the classroom.” Also
the internship brings up questions you don’t always think about when learning
in a classroom, and allows you to come back to the class and share the question
with everyone else. It also keeps you working on task, teaching you better time
management skills which is a great and necessary skill. Congratulations Erin
and Good Luck!!
