Ms. Cristin O’Brien, a first year MBA student, has been accepted to the 4th Annual Canadian Leadership Orientation Program. The program selects 21 students who are interested in developing business relations with Canada from leading business schools in the U.S and Mexico. It is an expense-paid program in which students learn about doing business in Canada. Moreover, participants interact with students from the Telfer School of Management and HEC Montreal. Mr. John Stephen Parlee, who attended the program last year, reiterated the value of learning about business relations with Canada.

Cristin is planning to apply the knowledge she gains to a business idea still being developed. “I want to start a unique greeting card business that combines my artistic talents with the business skills I am learning at UMaine. At the leadership program I hope to improve my understanding of the Canadian market and business atmosphere because I see Canada as a large potential customer base. It would open up opportunities for growth and be a foothold into other international markets. This is a valuable opportunity for networking, too.” The conference runs June 1 – 6 this spring in Ottawa.
