Professor Paul Myer, Executive in Residence at the
Maine Business
School, contends that many
business students lack essential skills in communication and presentation,
including techniques in persuasion and need to develop their personal
brand. He also believes that YOU are a BRAND! The way you dress, talk
even walk is the projection of your brand. You'll need to showcase the
brand that is YOU from Day One.” Your brand represents your identity,
your promise to your boss, to your friends, to
your family and to the community. At the request of students, Professor
Myer offered a Brand You workshop recently, which was well attended by
both business and non-business graduate students.
"You must establish
a personal brand" according to Professor Myer. "Your target
audience is hiring managers who deal with thousands of resumes each day.
You are one of the candidates, who are commodity. Your goal is to differentiate
yourself from the competition and to create a perceived unique value.
A brand is ongoing, evolving development. Creating and maintaining your
brand will help you consistently communicate a strong message."”
Professor Myer defined his role as an executive
educator, which, unlike his colleagues, is service oriented, to bring
the MBA program his knowledge as an experienced international business
executive. "My observation is most of the MBA students lack the ability
to effectively present themselves. However, it is the core foundation
of an MBA whether they are in Finance or Marketing or Accounting or Sustainability."
”
Professor Myer is willing to help other
MBA students by providing additional workshops. So, start branding yourself!
Tomorrow might be too late!
